Free insulation for over 70s

100% grant funded loft and cavity wall insulation is currently available to residents aged 70 years and above. This offer is made irrespective of your income and savings and whether or not you are in receipt of benefits.

In most cases cavity wall insulation is free to homeowners aged 70 and over. Loft insulation is free where the depth of existing insulation is no more than 60mm (2.5 inches). Proof of age and name and address is required and certain conditions¹ apply.

For most households, insulating has never made better financial sense. The Energy Saving Trust estimates annual savings² of £115 from cavity wall insulation and £150 from installing 270mm (10.5 inches) of loft insulation - the current recommended depth.  Big discounts are available to homeowners and private tenants who choose to have cavity wall and loft insulation fitted by approved installers.

Insulation offers an excellent first line of defence against both cold weather and rising fuel bills. The payback time is short and the long term financial and environmental benefits are high.

Notes for editors:

  1. If your home is larger than average for the number of bedrooms, or access is difficult, you may be asked to make a contribution.
  2. Savings are based on a gas heated three bedroom semi-detached house without any loft insulation. Topping up existing loft insulation to 270mm (10.5 inches) usually saves around £45 a year.
